About

Company Overview

NUM Industry Alliance is a technologically leading manufacturer of high-end Computer Numeric Control (CNC) systems: the sophisticated control solutions that tell precision machines exactly how to move, cut, grind, and shape. In a world where most CNC manufacturers focus on large-volume, general-purpose applications, NUM occupies a distinctive position: it specialises in niche and special-purpose machines where standard off-the-shelf controls simply do not work.

NUM's customers are typically small and medium-sized manufacturers of specialised machine tools: companies building gear grinding machines, transfer machines, or complex multi-axis systems for specific industrial applications. These customers need a CNC partner who can engineer custom solutions, provide deep application expertise, and offer local support wherever they operate.

The company maintains numerous sales, application engineering, and service locations worldwide. With 250-300 employees and revenue in the range of CHF 50-100 million, NUM is large enough to invest in continuous product development yet focused enough to give each customer the attention that their specialised requirements demand.

Partnership

Our Partnership

In December 2018, Helvetica Capital acquired a majority stake in NUM Industry Alliance through a Management Buy-Out. The company had built a strong reputation as a technology leader in high-end CNC automation, but its next chapter required an ownership partner who could support both organic growth and strategic acquisitions, without disrupting the deep technical culture that made NUM successful.

The transition was designed to keep management firmly in the driver's seat. The people who understood the technology, knew the customers, and had built the global service network continued to lead the business. Our role was to bring entrepreneurial capital, strategic perspective, and a network of industrial experience to help NUM expand its geographic reach, sharpen its operational processes, and pursue selective acquisitions.

Value Creation

What We Are Working On Together

Geographic expansion and market share growth

Pursuing organic growth by deepening NUM's presence in existing markets and entering new geographic regions, particularly where demand for specialised CNC solutions is growing among niche machine tool builders.

Process optimisation

Defining and implementing operational improvements across the organisation (from engineering workflows to supply chain management) to increase efficiency and responsiveness without compromising the technical quality customers expect.

Selective acquisitions

Supporting inorganic growth through targeted acquisitions that add complementary capabilities, expand the customer base, or strengthen NUM's service infrastructure in key markets.

Every exit is a completed story.

When we transition a company, it is from a position of strength, including to international groups.
